to the
Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia

Membership in any Bay Youth program is an honor accorded only to those who have demonstrated proficiency on their chosen instrument. Every member should be proud of his/her musical accomplishments in attaining membership. The Bay Youth Orchestras provide professionally-led training for serious young musicians. The orchestras aspire to the highest artistic standards. Music selected for study and performance includes quality symphonic literature known throughout the world. Study and performance of this repertoire helps prepare the students for college and other auditions, summer camps, and all areas of advanced study. Organizations like Bay Youth are found in every major city in the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, where professional musicians have joined with schools and arts supporters to provide talented young musicians with the opportunity to study and perform symphonic music.

• Higher levels of musical discipline in cooperation with other dedicated young musicians, learning from each other.
• Familiarization with and appreciation for the great music of the world.

The Bay Youth Musician's future goals may include:

• Jr. or Sr. Regional Orchestra/Band participation
• All-Virginia Orchestra or Band participation
• Advanced summer music study (Tanglewood, Interlochen, Eastern Music Festival, Brevard music Center, etc.)
• Performing with college or community orchestras

The Bay Youth Orchestras are members of:

American Symphony Orchestra League
Virginians for the Arts
Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads

and receive support from:

Local 125 of the American Federation of Musicians.

Homeschoolers are welcome to participate in Bay Youth whether or not they are members of a homeschool performing group.  Homeschoolers do not need a music director's signature to audition or participate in our program.  We highly recommend that homeschoolers receive private instruction.
