Audition Procedures

All Audition information has been updated for our June auditions. Auditions are scheduled for June 5 & 7, 2010. We are still waiting on final confirmation but we plan on holding them at Norview H.S. Audition Brochure (prints on leage size paper) Includes application and audition information. Emailable Audition Form You may need to save the form after completing and attach to an email or print and mail it.

1. Contact the Orchestra Manager (757.618.1800 or bayyouth@hotmail.com) to arrange an audition time and receive audition materials.

2. Enclose a $5.00 non-refundable application fee with the completed application made payable to: Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia.

4. Confirmation will be made in writing or by phone or email depending on time considerations.

--AUDITION REQUIREMENTS--

Jr. Strings: Students should be familiar with all notes on all the strings in first position for the keys of G, D and C major.
	G, D and C Major scales, one octave Sight-reading - supplied at audition
Strings: Students should be able to perform grade 3-4 music, play in the keys of C, D and G major; D and G minor and display solid position, good posture and the ability to shift to different positions.
	2 octave scale in the keys listed above 3-minute piece (grade 3-4) to demonstrate ability Sight-reading - supplied at audition
Concert: Students should be able to perform grade 4-5 music, have the motivation to improve musical skills and demonstrate the discipline to participate in longer rehearsals.
	Strings, Woodwinds and Brass 3 minute excerpt from a grade 4-5 solo or etude to demonstrate ability All major scales violin, viola, cello - 3 octave scale of choice - bass - 2 octave scale of choice Sight Reading - supplied at audition Percussion - See Symphony Orchestra
Symphony: Members must demonstrate proficiency on their instrument to meet the challenges of performing standard orchestral literature.
	Strings, Woodwinds and Brass 3 minute excerpt from a standard concerto or sonata Required orchestral excerpts (provided) Strings - 3 Octave scale of choice Winds - All major scales: 2 octaves Percussion Two 2-minute excerpts from rudiment books on at least 2 of the following instruments: snare drum, timpani, xylophone Required orchestral excerpt Violin Viola Cello Bass Flute Piccolo Oboe Clarinet Bassoon F.Horn Trumpet Trombone BassTrombone Tuba
