Applications are now being accepted for Old Dominion University's 1st
Summer String Camp. Meeting from June 28 through July 2, high school
string students (or equivalent in playing level) are encouraged to
enroll for a week of chamber music, string orchestra, jam sessions,
sight-reading practice, optional private lesson, AND jazz improvisation
with nationally known violinist John Blake, Jr.!
Experience university dorm life and food with 5 music-filled days and a
superb faculty for only $500.

The VCU Summer String Camp is a day camp open to middle & high school
students entering grades 6-12 in the fall of 2008. Professional
musicians and music educators will conduct master classes, run
sectionals and teach private lessons in violin, viola, cello & bass.
Students will be immersed in music during the week-long day camp...
playing in chamber ensembles, orchestra, learning about improvisation &
jazz, practicing in new and exciting ways and listening to faculty
performances. The final performance will take place on stage at VCU's
Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall in the Singleton Center for the Performing
Arts. A residential option is available to students who are not from the
metro Richmond area. These students will stay in the dormitories at VCU
and participate in after-hour activities with our counselors. Families
will enjoy many attractions in and around the metro Richmond area: Busch
Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, King's Dominion, & Pocahontas State Park
are all within 1 hour of the city.
